The main suspects in Benazir Bhutto’s assassination are the Pakistani and foreign Islamist militants who saw her as a heretic and an American stooge and had repeatedly threatened to kill her.
But fingers will also be pointed at Inter-Services Intelligence, the agency that has had close ties to the Islamists since the 1970s and has been used by successive Pakistani leaders to suppress political opposition.

Don Imus returned to the radio Monday morning - almost eight months after he was fired for making racially-charged remarks about members of the Rutgers women's basketball team, by saying: "What happened is what should have happened."
Imus' new show, a simulcast between WABC (770 AM) and the cable network RFD-TV, began with the host talking for about 15 minutes about the Rutgers drama.
What he realized, he said, is that "even if I'm a good person, that doesn't give me license to say something reprehensible about people who don't deserve it."
He referred to the new show as a "second chance" and a "rejuvenation," and he has added two black members to his regular cast: comic Karith Foster, who used to work on "The View," and comic Tony Powell, who yesterday was doing sports.

A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.
A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."
Saudi Arabia enforces a strict Islamic doctrine known as Wahhabism and forbids unrelated men and women from associating with each other, bans women from driving and forces them to cover head-to-toe in public.

Homosexuals deserve to be executed or tortured and possibly both, an Iranian leader told British MPs during a private meeting at a peace conference, The Times has learned.
Mohsen Yahyavi is the highest-ranked politician to admit that Iran believes in the death penalty for homosexuality after a spate of reports that gay youths were being hanged.
President Ahmadinejad, questioned by students in New York two months ago about the executions, dodged the issue by suggesting that there were no gays in his country.
Britain regularly challenges Iran about its gay hangings, stonings and executions of adulterers and perceived moral criminals, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) papers show.
The latest row involves a woman hanged this June in the town of Gorgan after becoming pregnant by her brother. He was absolved after expressing his remorse. Britain said that this demonstrated the unequal treatment of men and women in law and breached Iran’s pledge to restrict the death penalty to the most serious crimes.
A series of reported executions of gays, including two underage boys whose public hanging was posted on the internet, has alarmed human rights campaigners.

NEW YORK (AP) — Don Imus will return to the airwaves Dec. 3 on New York's WABC-AM, only nine months after the cantankerous shock jock's career seemed doomed over his racist, sexist remark about a women's college basketball team.
Citadel Broadcasting Corp. made the announcement Thursday, confirming long-rumored reports that Imus was returning to morning drive time in the same city where he was banished in April.
"We are ecstatic to bring Don Imus back to morning radio," said 77 WABC President and General Manager Steve Borneman. "Don's unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled. He is rested, fired up and ready to do great radio."
Imus will return with his longtime newsman, Charles McCord, and other members of his morning team, Citadel said in announcing the move. It did not specifically mention Bernard McGuirk, the producer who was fired along with Imus.
Imus will replace the morning team of Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby on the Citadel Broadcasting-owned station.
The acid-tongued broadcasting icon was fired in April after he called the Rutgers University's women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air, sparking a national furor and calls by civil rights leaders and broadcast journalists to resign.

Washington, DC -- The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), specializing in constitutional law, said today it will ask the Supreme Court of the United States to take two Utah cases that could force local governments across the country to remove existing displays, including long-standing patriotic and historical displays, the result of local governments being compelled to post privately owned monuments or displays from any group about anything.
On August 24th, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit rejected a request for the full appeals court to rehear the cases involving challenges in Duchesne and Pleasant Grove, Utah where a three-judge panel earlier ruled that a group called Summum could erect its Seven Aphorisms monument in the city parks because the cities display monuments of the Ten Commandments which were donated decades ago by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
“This is a very troubling decision that left standing could alter the landscape of America’s cities and towns by forcing local governments to remove long-standing patriotic, religious, and historical displays in order to comply with a twisted interpretation of the First Amendment,” said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ which is representing the two Utah cities. “This is a case that turns free speech and equal access on its head and ultimately would compel local governments to display privately-owned monuments of any kind, a move that is not only wrong but unconstitutional. This case has very serious ramifications for the entire nation. In addition to pressuring local and state governments to remove any vestige of our religious heritage, like the Ten Commandments, this flawed legal analysis would likely result in the removal of displays and monuments celebrating America’s culture and heritage. It’s a significant issue that must be addressed by the Supreme Court.”

Liberty Counsel filed suit against Lewis Palmer School District on behalf of Erica Corder, a high school valedictorian who was forced to publicly apologize for sharing her Christian faith at graduation. Erica was one of fifteen valedictorians from the Lewis-Palmer High School class of 2006. For the past year, she has been the subject of criticism because the school continues to portray her as a student who engaged in improper conduct because she mentioned Jesus Christ during her speech.

A man who wants a Biblical reference on his vanity license plate has been dealt another setback in his legal fight with the state of Vermont.
A judge says the Department of Motor Vehicles "has the right to prohibit religious messages on license plates provided it does not discriminate based on the particular message or viewpoint."
Shawn Byrne wants a license plate that reads "JN36TN" -- shorthand for John 3:16, a Bible passage that reads: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

WorldNetDaily - As talkers prove their influence on public policy, the sharp knives come out
Though most Americans aren't yet aware of it, talk radio – from Rush Limbaugh to the local talker in small-town America – is under major attack, reports the August issue of WND's acclaimed Whistleblower magazine, titled "THE WAR ON TALK RADIO."
And no wonder: Last month radio talkers presided over a minor American revolution when they urged millions of citizens to successfully oppose the immigration/amnesty bill that the president and both political parties had been pushing relentlessly. It went down in flames – a devastating blow to the political establishment.

By most appearances, President Bush scored a rare and much sought-after victory last weekend. After months of tough negotiations, the Democrats caved to Bush's demands for new authority to conduct warrant-free eavesdropping in the United States. But on one key issue that the new bill was supposed to address — the increasing wariness of telecommunications companies when cooperating with the government eavesdropping program — Bush's victory was more political than it was substantive.

The Senate will be voting, as early as today, on S.1105, the so-called "hate crimes" bill. Under S.1105, acts of crime committed against members of certain protected classes - including those who identify themselves by their "actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity" - would warrant more intense prosecution and greater penalties than the very same acts committed against heterosexuals.
It would establish homosexuals as a special class of people and give them special rights.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Hindu clergyman made history Thursday by offering the Senate's morning prayer, but only after police officers removed three shouting protesters from the visitors' gallery.
Rajan Zed, director of interfaith relations at a Hindu temple in Reno, Nev., gave the brief prayer that opens each day's Senate session. As he stood at the chamber's podium in a bright orange and burgundy robe, two women and a man began shouting "this is an abomination" and other complaints from the gallery.
Police officers quickly arrested them and charged them disrupting Congress, a misdemeanor. The male protester told an AP reporter, "we are Christians and patriots" before police handcuffed them and led them away.
For several days, the Mississippi-based American Family Association has urged its members to object to the prayer because Zed would be "seeking the invocation of a non-monotheistic god."
Zed, the first Hindu to offer the Senate prayer, began: "We meditate on the transcendental glory of the Deity Supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of the heaven. May He stimulate and illuminate our minds."
As the Senate prepared for another day of debate over the Iraq war, Zed closed with, "Peace, peace, peace be unto all."
Zed, who was born in India, was invited by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. Speaking in the chamber shortly after the prayer, Reid defended the choice and linked it to the war debate.
"If people have any misunderstanding about Indians and Hindus," Reid said, "all they have to do is think of Gandhi," a man "who gave his life for peace."
"I think it speaks well of our country that someone representing the faith of about a billion people comes here and can speak in communication with our heavenly Father regarding peace," said Reid, a Mormon and sharp critic of President Bush's Iraq policies.
Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said the protest "shows the intolerance of many religious right activists. They say they want more religion in the public square, but it's clear they mean only their religion."
Capitol police identified the protesters as Ante Nedlko Pavkovic, Katherine Lynn Pavkovic and Christan Renee Sugar. Their ages and hometowns were not available.
