Braving frigid temperatures and freezing rain, thousands of pro-life activists gathered at the National Mall on Monday to mark the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that legalized abortion nationwide and to hear members of Congress, who waited in line for their turn to criticize the Obama administration for its numerous anti-life policies.
The 39th annual March for Life ended at the steps of the Supreme Court where Roe v. Wade was decided on Jan. 22, 1973 – a ruling that has resulted in more than 50 million American children being killed by abortion.

Today is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday -- and this year commemorates 39 years of legalized abortion that has seen the equivalent of an entire generation wiped out.
The day was first set aside by a presidential proclamation issued by Ronald Reagan in 1983. Virginia Cline of Heartbeat International tells OneNewsNow the purpose of the observance is to reaffirm Americans' commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of human life.

New Hampshire Right to Life is suing the Obama administration in an attempt to force the release of information regarding $1-million in taxpayer money awarded to Planned Parenthood’s six New Hampshire clinics.
The grant – awarded by the Health and Human Service Department (HHS) in September -- came three months after New Hampshire’s governing body rejected federal money for clinics that perform abortions.
The lawsuit stems from an Oct. 7, 2011 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. New Hampshire Right to Life on that date asked HHS for documents regarding the million-dollar grant – and why it was not put out for competitive bidding so hospitals and health clinics could have applied for the funding as well.

The ABC 20/20 news story is riveting — a revealing look at why there are so many fewer women than men in India. Reporter Elizabeth Vargas traveled to India to bring this story of what is called “Gendercide” home to a stunned American audience.
Here are the numbers: An astonishing 50,000 girl babies are aborted each month. One millions girl babies die every year. Over 40 million girls have been killed through sex selection abortions, neglect or outright murder in the past decades.
The main reason for male preference is money. Indian culture demands that a woman entering a marriage provide a dowry. In order to avoid impoverishing the family, girls are simply eliminated. Sex selective abortions are not used just by poor families, however, as middle and upper class families also seek ultrasound to guarantee the birth of a son.

Adult stem cells continue to make scientific advancements as they have now proved successful in treating burns.
Skin grafts can typically take weeks to work and always pose the threat of complications like infection or rejection of a donor's skin. Dr. David Prentice, senior fellow for life sciences at the Family Research Council (FRC), tells OneNewsNow the latest breakthrough comes from research at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburgh.
Prentice adds that nothing dies with the use of adult stem cells, which currently treat more than 70 illnesses and medical conditions. Meanwhile, research on human embryos, which involves killing tiny human beings, has produced zero results.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that would prohibit abortion providers from receiving federal funds through Title X of the Public Health Service Act, including Planned Parenthood, which received more than $360 million in government grants and contracts in Fiscal Year 2008-2009.
“The largest abortion provider in America should not also be the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X,” Pence said from the House floor when he introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act today, Jan. 7.
“Federal funding should reflect the priorities and the values of the majority of the American people,” Pence said. “Whatever people think about abortion across this country since Roe versus Wade, survey after survey has shown that an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to support, subsidize, or promote abortion at home or abroad.”

Archbishop Timothy Dolan is calling for efforts to make abortions in New York City “rare.”
Dolan gathered with other religious leaders on Thursday to draw attention to the city’s high abortion rate. The city health department last month released statistics that showed 39 percent of pregnancies ended with induced termination in 2009.
“I re-affirm Cardinal John O’Connor’s promise of a quarter-century ago that every woman facing a difficult pregnancy will be provided with free, confidential help of the highest quality from the Archdiocese of New York,” said Archbishop Dolan.
While the numbers have declined in the last decade, the religious leaders said they are still too high.

Planned Parenthood has released a report for 2008 that includes dismal figures for pro-life efforts.
Jim Sedlak, vice president of the American Life League (ALL), tells OneNewsNow that Planned Parenthood Federation of America's service report for that year -- services that were carried out for its clients -- reveals some disturbing figures.
"They admit that in that year -- 2008 -- they did 324,008 abortions," he reports, pointing out the "six percent increase over the 2007 numbers, which were already a five percent increase over the year before."
Even though the organization's most lucrative "service" is abortion, the chain of abortion clinics insists it consistently refers women to adoption services.
"Actually, Planned Parenthood referred only 2,405 women for adoptions, and that was 51 percent less than what they had done in 2007." So when the numbers are considered, the ALL vice president estimates that "Planned Parenthood commits 134 abortions for every one adoption that it refers out."
He goes on to warn that those figures could get even higher if Planned Parenthood begins receiving more federal tax dollars through healthcare reform. So Sedlak concludes that now is the time for people to lobby their local, state and federal lawmakers to stop administering tax dollars to kill children in the wombs.

Diane GramleyThe American Family Association (AFA) of Pennsylvania is calling for an investigation of a case in which a Department of Human Services caseworker allegedly pressured a teen into having an abortion.
According to Diane Gramley, president of AFA-Pennsylvania, the DHS caseworker threatened the underage girl. Gramley reports the case "involves a 16-year-old girl who wanted to keep her baby, yet she was pressured to get an abortion or she would lose her one-year-old daughter."
The teenager's birth mother and foster mother both refused to grant permission for the suggested abortion, so Brown took the girl before a judge to acquire a parental bypass for an abortion that is illegal in the state.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.), a professed Roman Catholic, told CNSNews.com Wednesday that federal funding of health plans that cover elective abortions is “not a question of morality” but “a matter of health -- public health.”
“Obviously there’s going to be some legal decisions that are going to be coming forward, I’m sure, that are going to adjudicate this,” Kennedy said at the Capitol. “But obviously, we’ve got to protect women’s health. Half of our population are women, and -- this is a matter of public health.
He added: “It’s not a question of morality or anything; it’s a matter of health -- public health. Our mothers, our sisters, our spouses, I mean, this is a simple issue. It’s not making any judgment on people. It’s just a matter of providing -- making sure that they’re safe. And there’s only one way to make sure they’re safe, and that’s making sure that it’s legal.”

A congressman who has played a key role in the long-running health care debate says he and 11 other Democrats will vote against the overhaul unless a provision subsidizing abortion is removed.
Rep. Bart Stupak argued Thursday that the provision in the Senate-passed version has language that would permit the federal government to "directly subsidize abortions."
The Michigan Democrat said he supports health care change, but he said several Democrats who voted for it the House would oppose it next time around in the absence of change. Stupak said on ABC's "Good Morning America" that "we're not going to bypass some principles that we believe strongly about." The administration argues that Obama's bill would retain existing restrictions on federally-financed abortions.

The Senate narrowly rejected an amendment that would have restricted abortion coverage in the pending health-care bill, leaving in question whether Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) has the 60 votes needed to move the bill toward final passage.
The measure, which failed 54-45, addressed the scope of restrictions on coverage of abortion services for people who receive subsidies to buy insurance. The outcome was expected, but could cost the support of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), who has threatened to filibuster the $848 billion bill unless abortion restrictions are tightened.

The US Senate could start debating its final healthcare reform bill as early as Tuesday, pitting Democrat against Democrat over the controversial question of abortion coverage.
The debate puts Barack Obama, who campaigned as pro-choice, in the middle of one of the most emotional and enduring debates in US politics, potentially forcing him to take sides on an issue he has tried to avoid since becoming president.
The House of Representatives this month passed a healthcare reform bill that would sharply curtail access to abortion. Several Democrats in the Senate have said they want similar restrictions in their own bill.

While House leaders are moving toward a vote on health-care legislation by the end of the week, enough Democrats are threatening to oppose the measure over the issue of abortion to create a question about its passage.
House leaders were still negotiating Monday with the bloc of Democrats concerned about abortion provisions in the legislation, saying that they could lead to public funding of the procedure. After an evening meeting of top House Democrats, Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) said, "We are making progress," but added that they had not reached an agreement.

..."You've heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion," Obama said recently in a call to religious leaders. "Not true."
But this last statement, while technically correct, does not tell the whole story. The health-care reform proposed by House Democrats, if enacted, would in fact mark a significant change in the Federal Government's role in the financing of abortions. "It would be a dramatic shift," says Representative Bart Stupak, a Michigan Democrat who has vowed to oppose the bill because of how it would affect abortion. Stupak says dozens of House Democrats may join him in opposing a final health-care compromise unless the abortion language is changed, presenting a clear challenge to Democratic vote counters that could imperil a party-line vote.

A new test to reveal the gender of a fetus in early pregnancy has sparked a row over whether it will lead to sex-selection abortions.
The American-designed IntelliGender test kit, which can be used from eight weeks after conception, went on sale in Australia last month. Its Australian distributor hopes to launch it in New Zealand within a fortnight.
David Portnoy, managing director of Melbourne-based Early Image, said yesterday that he was negotiating with health products companies Douglas Pharmaceuticals and API to supply the kits to New Zealand pharmacies.
He expected they would sell for about $125.
